OUR
APPROACH

SCALABLE

EVIDENCE-BASED

COST-EFFECTIVE

WHY FOCUS ON VACCINATIONS?

THEY'RE EFFECTIVE

Vaccines prevent disease, save lives, and produce social and economic benefits. Vaccinations avert 2-3 million child deaths every year (WHO/UNICEF). They are among the most cost-effective medical interventions ever developed

THEY'RE NEGLECTED

Despite progress, India is home to between 6 to 15% of the world’s unvaccinated children. While vaccine supply chains have improved, gaps in demand remain a major challenge. Poor tracking of vaccination dates and misinformation are examples of contributors to this demand gap.

THEY MATTER FOR FAMILIES &
SOCIETY

Vaccines reduce medical costs, prevent suffering, and protect children’s future opportunities in education and productivity

WHY THIS APPROACH?

In 2017, researchers from the MIT Poverty Action Lab tested the idea of combining SMS vaccine reminders with community ambassadors in Haryana State, India. Their study showed that this combined approach increased the number of children receiving all their vaccines by 25%.

WHERE WE WORK

MapChart_Map.png

We prioritise regions where we believe we can have an especially high impact with the resources we have.

70% of India’s un- and under-vaccinated children live in 6 of India’s states: Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat  (NFHS-5)

Suvita is working closely with the state governments in Bihar and Maharashtra states in India to increase routine immunisation uptake.
